Virginia History Day By Day
JULY 5 1776: [235 years ago today] The Virginia Constitution Convention of 1776 adopts the Great Seal of Virginia. The approval follows a recommendation of a committee that included jurist George Wythe as the principal designer, along with Richard Henry Lee, George Mason and Robert Carter Nicholas. The seal features an image of Virtus (virtue) a Roman goddess, who represents the genius of the commonwealth. She has a sheathed sword in one hand and a spear in the other, and she has a foot on the form of Tyranny (tyrant). Both sides of the seal are bordered with Virginia creeper. 1961: [50 years ago today] A major fire erupts after an explosion at the Crown Central Petroleum Corp. waterfront facilities in Richmond. One person is critically injured. The fire destroys a tugboat and damages seven houses. JULY 61758: Robert Breckinridge of Augusta County obtains a license to marry Letitia Preston, eldest daughter of western Virginia pioneers John and Elizabeth Patton Preston. The Breckinridges, Pattons and Prestons are among the many Scots-Irish families who settled in the Shenandoah Valley in the early 18th century. 1922: U.S. Vice President Calvin Coolidge visits Fredericksburg as part of a fundraising campaign to save and restore Kenmore, the home of Betty and Fielding Lewis, the sister and brother-in-law of George Washington. JULY 7
1997: Henry E. Howell Jr. dies of cancer in Norfolk. He was 76. A former delegate and state senator, he served as Virginia's lieutenant governor from 1971 to 1973. He lost three bids for governor, in 1969, 1973 and 1977. 2003: Frederick Gresham Pollard dies of a heart attack while visiting in New York. The Richmond native was a member of the House of Delegates and served as Virginia's lieutenant governor from 1966 to 1970. He was also rector of the University of Virginia.
Goddess Of Fire - News
Police said the body of the boy, missing since last night, was found with injuries in a well near the Goddess Kali temple this morning at Jothibasu Nagar. The crowd also destroyed some articles in the temple, which was partly gutted in the fire.
One likely staple at a southern funeral is the Goddess of Grief, a woman wailing and hollering, wanting all to notice how much compassion with which the good Lord filled her bodily vessel. I've already hired my personal wailer.

And by that I mean Lisa Lampinelli, Jeff Ross and the usual suspects will lay into the Goddess-less former CBS star over his weird descent from network to no work. These are the times I miss the late Greg Giraldo the most, he would have been the best

My new book, Fire of the Goddess is already available for sale! The publishers are releasing her a bit early and through a funny twist of fate, I was not at my home in Hawaii to receive the first copies. My husband has received them, friends and family have started to receive them…but I have yet to smell the pages of my very own writing in a brand new book fresh off the printer.
Oddly, this feels kind of perfect, for a few reasons. One, that this book never felt like it ‘belonged’ to me. Or even came from me, but rather through me. The entire process of the book was guided by the sacred feminine, the divine Goddess and all her forms. Many dreams and coincidences pointed the way, which often felt circular and never linear. Much of the book was born out of my interactions with women all over the globe and what I felt was the ways we could all help to open and celebrate our female version of power, love and wisdom.
Most of the last two years, I felt like I was writing the book in the midst of chaos. My family life, online work, other writing, social activity, paying bills all swirled through my life, over the kitchen table where I also researched extensively and wrote this book. Needless to say, I almost felt like I never had a handle on things…like the book itself was dissolving as I created it. In my research, Chaos turned out to be a fitting term, as it also historically relates to the Goddess. An original word for Goddess was Chaos which describes our emergence from the dark, wet, wild wombs of women. In this way, chaos is perfect, it keeps us from trying to control what is uncontrollable anyway…allows us to open to the wisdom of nature, the wild and our hearts.
