Vision Airlines axing service to 5 of its 24 cities

The move comes less than four months after Vision first began flying to most of those cities. It offered service to its hub at the Northwest Florida Regional Airport near Destin/Fort Walton Beach. The carrier also flew from Baton Rouge to Las Vegas.

"We had high hopes for all of the cities we serve however, the demand in a few of these cities has not met our expectations," Vision COO David Meers says in a release . "There are a variety of factors that went into our decision, but with high fuel prices, it is not prudent to continue to fly in markets that may take a very long time to develop."

He adds that while the airport was happy to land the carrier, "we all wondered if there was really a market for Savannah to Destin."

Officials at South Carolina's Columbia Metropolitan Airport expressed a similar sentiment.

"The services we've had to the Florida market just haven't ever done very well out of here,"airport spokeswoman Lynne Douglas says to The State newspaper of Columbia. "It just appears to be more of a drive market to a lot of those areas."

Among the five dropped cities, Baton Rouge was the closest to Destin (about 300 miles) while Columbia and Greenville/Spartanburg were the farthest (about 475 miles).

LSU vs. Oregon Football: LSU vs. Oregon Football Today

Once The New Orleans Times-Picayune gets cranked up with focusing on Tiger Football, they will be probably the "go-to" press site to visit but, they are not talking football today. The blog "And the Valley Shook" is also a very good site for LSU football that is not yet totally focused on football. I have permanent links to both of these sites in the LSU column on the left. These are some of the more interesting things happening in Tiger and Duck football this far away from the September 3rd opening between the LSU Tigers and the Oregon Ducks.  If you find a great LSU or Oregon Football article that you think fans may want to see leave a link in the comments section or shoot me an email at bobwynnster@gmail.com.

The comment section is as open as possible, you are entitled to and I respect your opinion but, I respectfully disagree. I carry permanent links to Dandy Don on this site and on my LSU site because Don posts daily and provides a format that can be looked at quickly. I have heard others complain about Dandy Don and to a person, the complaint is almost always about Don's quick read/brief format and not about the content. In fact, I have several readers that have asked that I do a daily update, like Dandy Don. I try to stay out of my comment boxes but I am a big fan of Don Long and while I hope I have not overstepped my boundaries, I have to stick up for him. I visit Dandy Don often and enjoy his insight and information.

I just wanted to make a comment that I disagree with almost everyone who thinks this is going to be a "good game" a "marquee match-up" a game that is all the "hype"! What a load. There are three reasons its hyped, SEC vs. Pac12 Ducks coming off a run at the NC. Two, both teams are ranked in the top ten. And three, because its the biggest game to start the season off. Other than that...in all seriousness is this really a good game. Not just cause I am Duck fan, but I think the Ducks are going to win by three touchdowns plus. The only possible way this game is close and LSU has a shot is if Jefferson has the best game of his life, I mean like 28-33 passing with 375 yards, four touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. I do not think that is going to happen.
