A first look at the National September 11 Memorial: A tough work of abstract ...
As shaped by the architect Michael Arad of New York and Berkeley, Calif., landscape architect Peter Walker, the memorial takes up about half of the 16-acre site on the World Trade Center. At its heart are the mirrors of water, each acre in size and set within the footprints of the twin towers destroyed. Ringing the perimeter of the pool are elegant bronze panels displaying the names of those killed on 9 / 11 in New York, Washington and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the 1993 bombing of the trade center - a total of 2983 men, women and children.
