Notes Most Artistic in US History

In 1893, Chicago, Illinois was the site of a great world’s fair, arguably the grandest exposition ever to be held in the United States. At about the same time that the World’s Columbian Exposition was in full swing in Chicago, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington D.C., was beginning to plan a new issue of bank notes, that would break from traditional bank note design and offer compositions executed by talented artists of the day. In the fall of 1893, authorities at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing approached a small group of prominent muralists, painters and designers to submit proposed designs for the new series of notes. Some of these gentlemen had done work for the Columbian Exposition, having designed the diplomas for domestic and foreign exhibitors, and worked on decorations for exposition buildings. Denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $500 and $1,000 were planned for a series of Silver Certificates that would replace the notes currently in use, whose designs had been in circulation for several years. Several proposed designs were submitted for the notes, and four of them were selected for further development into compositions that would be conducive to bank note production. However, just three denominations would be issued, the $1, $2 and $5. The remaining denominations were abandoned. The face designs featured beautiful allegorical vignettes titled, History Instructing Youth on the $1 note, Science Presenting Steam and Electricity to Commerce and Manufacture on the $2 note, and Electricity Presenting Light to the World on the $5 note. From the vignette titles alone, one can easily imagine how this series of notes stands as a monument to the achievements and contributions of Americans. The back designs feature portraits of famous Americans who have come to symbolize who the great figures of American history are, as well as the types of contributions they have made to our ultimate success. The $1 note features George and Martha Washington, representative of our elected leadership, the $2 features Robert Fulton and Samuel F.B. Morse, representing the inventive minds that have advanced science and technology in America and the $5 note features Ulysses S. Grant, and Philip Sheridan, defenders of our Union during the Civil War. The submitted designs were those of muralists and the compositions were very different than any American bank note designs that had come before.

Fareed Zakaria has a program called GPS on CNN. Last week he went to singapore and interviewed a security\economic analyst from india, singapore and China. The analyst said something which was 100% acurate and something very semilar to what is happenning on this forum, He said India in its heart wants Obama to win but thinking with its head (logically) they want Mccain to win. He said Obama would be a disaster to India. He went on to read a laundry list of things in which Obama would be bad for India and one of the things that he cited would be bad for India under Obama was EB immigration for Indians and Chinese. Even analysts from India, China and singapore recognize what a disaster Obama would be for Eb immigrants and we here are still hoping for a obama win. Anyway, You and I (EB imigrants) hoping will not make any difference but atleast wake up to the impending disaster in the form of Obama\Durbin and start planning for it. You can see flood of post from EB3 folks who has superior qualification (education wise as well as experience) compare to you. Either you are out of your mind from rigorous GC fever or a one eyed person with poor imagination or simply you did not get a chance to work in a big environment like fortune 10 or may be fortune 100 companies. Or else you would know how/why/when a company files under EB3 despite the fact that the candidate has more than required qualification for EB2. Position requirement, layoffs, HR policies, Company’s Attorney Firm’s policy etc. comes to picture when a big organization files LC/GC for a candidate. On a related note, after reading this long thread I couldn't help but wish all other IV campaigns (admin fixes, fund raising, house bills) could arouse such passion and involvement from IV members. Now, I'm NOT saying any particular category (EB2 vs Eb3) volunteers more than the other - its just matter of individual initiative, period - but it seems somehow our collective psyche is at ease as long as we all are stuck in the rut as a whole. Efforts to get ALL of us out of this mess do not fire up this much passion.. One possible solution is to establish a separate quotas for companies perfoming R&D in the US. Something like this already exists in the tax code where companies establish eligibility for the R&D tax credit. A similar bar could be used to administer a R&D quota for H1B or GC. That should address concerns around the quota for top US companies.
