Switch is a hit: Round Rock Express minor league team joins Rangers after ...

Frank Martin has been to more Round Rock Express games than anyone. He bought season tickets the year the Dell Diamond opened in 2000 and has missed only eight games through 11 seasons.

He watched a 22-year-old Roy Oswalt put up a 1.94 ERA and players such as Brad Lidge, Willy Taveras and Chad Qualls develop into major-leaguers. They were among the 13 former Express players on the Houston Astros squad that reached the 2005 World Series.

But since then the Astros' farm system has been in steady decline. The low point came last season when the Express failed to reach the 60-win mark for the second time in team history.

Martin considered dropping his season tickets but changed his mind when the Express announced last fall that it would become the Texas Rangers' Triple A affiliate for at least four seasons.

Since the affiliation change, the Express has seen everything move in the right direction. It leads the Pacific Coast League's American South Division, it leads the league in attendance and its merchandise sales are up 15 to 20 percent.

"I love that they're with the Rangers now," said Martin, a 69-year-old Round Rock resident. "Houston stopped going after players, and they wouldn't sign any of those high-end prospects in the draft. The Rangers just have a better system in place, and it's been really fun to watch their guys play this season. They always have a chance to win."

Martin grew up cheering for the Rangers but had become an Astros fan with the Express' affiliation. That seemed to be the case with most of the fans at last Sunday's game against Oklahoma City, the Rangers' previous Triple A team now affiliated with the Astros.

"I grew up a Rangers fan, and the atmosphere down here now is so much better than it was," said Colton Spears, a 17-year-old from Pflugerville, wearing the popular claw and antlers T-shirt.

The fans, most wearing Rangers gear, made sure to mention that they still root for the Astros, but they clearly have embraced the change. It's fairly easy to be a fan of both - after all, they play in different leagues and see each other only six times a season.

As Austin resident Jill Walker said, "I like both teams, but the Rangers are doing great right now and it's exciting to have them here."

Winning matters

Reid Ryan doesn't buy into the minor league stereotype that winning doesn't matter to fans, who simply go to games for fireworks, giveaways and goofy promotions between innings.

A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me. I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed. So, I waved to all my sisters and brothers grinning, and drove on through the intersection. I noticed I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and I felt kind of sad that had to leave them after all the love we had shared, so I slowed the car down, leaned out of the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. For selling a home – just like stocks – it does not matter if the real estate market is doing well today or not. It only matters how the seller market is when it is time to sell. And again, no one can predict that in advance. Given this simple logic, it is totally useless to speculate resale values of homes which you may never even sell! I applied for GC under schedule A in may06 .My husband filed as derivative. He received a notice of intent to denial last month .Reason being he did not have paystubs for a period of more than 6 months during 2000 and 2001.His employer at that time did not pay him even after he worked for 4 months then he took few more months to change his company(more than 180 days)In 2002 he went to India and came back .and in 2004 filed for a GC as primary petitioner and me as a derivative .last year he withdrew the petition after he received several RFE`S fearing the worst.Even though he no longer has GC filed as primary petitioner he received notice of intent to deny for the petion filed through me saying that his H1 was not legal as could`nt show proof for several months and that when he filed for AOS he used those years as work experience. We bought a house last year thinking that under schedule A we`ll get GC in no time. Now we know it is a terrible mistake. Now both of us can`t work and had to take my son out of daycare. and we have house payments to make.We put our house for sale weeks ago and so far no offers.I contacted local representative to expedite My EAD and also contacted USCIS to expedite it, But people should come out and unshelter terrorists who live in civilian facilities. Same as Dawood & Azhar Masood. People want to harbour them but them if other country takes military action to capture them and some civilians killed because they were in civilian area, it is bad to shout on name of humanity.
