Missing Kentucky teenager feared drowned

The boy’s name has not yet been released, but Cox said he would be a freshman at Green County High School in the fall.

Rescuers from three counties searched the shallow river in total darkness for more than five hours between Monday night and early Tuesday morning. “It’s so dangerous to do this type of thing at night,” Cox said.

Other rescuers just stood along the foggy riverbank, watching and waiting for their turn to relieve teams already out on the water.

The search is scheduled to resume this morning.

The Green County Rescue Squad and Adair County’s Breeding Fire Department joined CTCR in conducting the search. All three departments have divers and swift-water technical rescue teams, Cox said, and the three hold joint training exercises at least once a month.

Two teams of divers, two shoreline search teams and one boat-based team spearheaded the search. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and Taylor County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

The teen’s disappearance happened exactly one year after a Hardin County man drowned on nearby Green River Lake.
